Midland Striker '15 Grand Champion at Southern Hound Show

Hound show season is underway and on April 9, Midland Striker '15 was named Grand Champion of Show at the Southern Hound Show. The organizers were delighted to welcome Mr. Alastair Jackson, ex-MFH, the Cattistock Hunt (UK), and Dr. John McDonald, MFH, London Hunt (ON) as judges. As always, the Masters at Live Oak and the Show Committee provided a beautiful and well-organized setting for the competition.

Limestone Creek Partners With Cornell in Hound Nutrition Study

In late February, Limestone Creek Hunt (NY) began a new venture for its old hounds: under the watchful eye of Dr. Joseph J. Wakshlag, Associate Professor of Clinical Nutrition and Sports Medicine/Rehabilitation, thirteen recently retired hounds were started on a feeding trial for a new dog food that has lately been introduced to the market. Weekly weigh-ins, a few physical exams and blood work are the necessities to making this a successful endeavor for the hounds and the feed manufacturer both.

Good Deeds: Hunt Clubs Help Rescued Horses

Last October, when more than eighty horses were surrendered and seized from a neglect situation in Orange County, Virginia, the local equestrian community rallied dramatically to their aid. Area hunt clubs also organized to provide assistance in many forms - financial, donations of needed supplies, and skilled labor. Horses, and some cats and dogs, were transferred to various shelters and rescue organizations, which sent out requests for help.

Rare Munnings Study Offered for Sale

Known as the 20th century's finest painter of horses, Sir Alfred Munnings created this oil on panel study for his large finished portrait of the famous racehorse, Son-in-Law, in 1927. The William Second Gallery is pleased to offer this piece, in the artist's characteristic loose, fluid style, for sale. It is an intriguing preliminary work, extensively inscribed and dated by the artist.

Dave Kruger Named Huntsman for North Hills Hunt Club

David Kruger has been named Huntsman of the North Hills Hunt Club (IA).

Kruger was raised on the family farm in Eastern Nebraska. Following high school graduation, he served four years in the United States Coast Guard where he was stationed in Hawaii and Florida. Kruger returned home to attend college and served four years in the Army Reserves. He will obtain his bachelor’s degree in Business Management this fall.

Chapman Excels in Field Hunter Championships

"Grandma, you're too old to keep winning these things!" Carolyn Chapman certainly proved her thirteen-year-old grandson wrong this fall, winning the Virginia Field Hunter Championships October 25, following a third-place finish (and Most Suitable award) at the Theodora A. Randolph North American Field Hunter Championships the weekend before. Carolyn, a longtime member and whipper-in at Farmington Hunt (VA), earned the North American accolades on a homebred horse whose dam carried her to victory years earlier.
